New film in theaters this Friday …
— “Blindsight,” a fascinating documentary about a 2004 expedition to climb the north face of Mount Everest, by a group of sight-impaired Tibetans.
— “Chicago 10,” an unsuccessful documentary/docu-drama re-creating the deadly 1968 rioting in Chicago.
— “The Counterfeiters,” the Oscar-winning German drama about concentration camp prisoners forced to work with their Nazi captors.
— “Emma Smith: My Story,” a locally produced drama about the wife of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints founder Joseph Smith.
— “Smart People,” an off-puttingly smug comedy-drama about a family of academicians.
— “Street Kings,” a police corruption thriller featuring a badly miscast Keanu Reeves as a hardened detective.
The best by far is the “Blindsight” documentary, though the “Counterfeiters” tale is interesting and the “Emma Smith” biography is much better filmed and acted than most recent LDS film fare.
