Catfight on the catwalk

Lifetime has stolen “Project Runway” out from under Bravo. Maybe.
The astonishingly popular reality/competition show in which aspiring fashion designers fight it out has been a hit for Bravo since it debuted in 2004.
But the shows producers announced they’ve cut a deal with Lifetime to move the show there — lock, stock, Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum.
It’s a five-year deal. And it’s more than a bit weird because it doesn’t start until after the fifth season of “Project Runway” airs on Bravo this summer.
Bravo and its corporate parent, NBC Universal, sued and issued the following statement:
“NBC Universal has continuing legal rights related to ‘Project Runway,’ including a right of first refusal to future cycles of the series, which The Weinstein Company unfortunately has refused to honor. NBC Universal regrettably had no alternative but to bring legal action to enforce its rights to this program, including the right to decide whether it is in the best interest of the company to continue to air the show under the proposed financial terms.”
I can’t help but think there would be a very entertaining reality show in all of this — a behind-the-scenes look at the battle between Lifetime and Bravo.
It’ll be a battle of titans — General Electric owns NBC Universal; Disney is half-owner of Lifetime.
Could be VERY entertaining . . .
