"Baby" box office

This past weekend’s top-10 movies, estimates provided by Media By Numbers:

1. Baby Mama
$18.3 million

2. Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
$14.6 million

3. The Forbidden Kingdom
$11.2 million

4. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
$11 million

5. Nim’s Island
$4.5 million

6. Prom Night
$4.4 million

7. 21
$4 million

8. 88 Minutes
$3.6 million

9. Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!
$2.4 million

10. Deception
$2.2 million

Despite the lack of big names in its cast, the first-week numbers were decent for “Baby Mama,” which features former “Saturday Night Live” head writer Tina Fey and current SNL cast member Amy Poehler. The numbers were less encouraging for the second “Harold & Kumar” movie comedy, though the film’s small budget will make it profitable.

The real bust of the weekend was “Deception,” which was arguably the most star-driven new opening (with Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman leading its cast). The animated “Horton Hears a Who!” inched closer to the $150-million threshhold over the weekend.

Bigger things are expecting this weekend, with the opening of the summer films “Iron Man” and “Made of Honor.”
