New in theaters this week:

– “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” (rated PG-13), the return of the fearless, take-action archeologist character played by Harrison Ford.
– “Son of Rambow” (rated PG-13), a coming-of-age tale about the friendship between two movie fans: a repressed but imaginative youth and the school bully.

The fourth “Indiana Jones” movie adventure is not great, but it’s certainly fun enough. “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” is also better than the fondly remembered but sort of awful “Temple of Doom.”

As for “Rambow,” its creativity and the ’80s-period soundtrack makes up for some occasional nastiness.

Also, another film, the sexually ambiguous French musical “Love Songs” (not rated), is opening at the Tower Theatre but was not previewed for local critics.
