But don't you actually have to see the movie first?
Two of this summer’s films have already gotten criticized before they’ve even been released.
The American Medical Association Alliance is taking shots at Universal’s “The Incredible Hulk,” based on some smoking and tobacco content. One character, Gen. Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (played by William Hurt), is seen in the movie with a cigar.
Having already seen “Hulk,” which opens Friday, I can tell you that he doesn’t actually puff on the stogie.. But the group and others are asking that the PG-13 rated movie receive an R instead, based solely on that content.
Meanwhile, a group calling itself the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti and Sanatan Society for Scientific Spirituality is considering a boycott of Paramount Pictures and its parent company, Viacom. Paramount is releasing the comedy “The Love Guru,” starring Mike Myers.
However, spokesmen for the group say they believe the movie is an “apparent denigration of Hinduism and Hindu concepts” and are asking for a meeting with Paramount executives.
Both groups admit that they haven’t even seen the respective films they’re protesting. Which doesn’t mean they don’t have valid points. But ,to be fair, maybe they should see the movies before they speak out.
