Stan Winston R.I.P.
The Associated Press is reporting that multiple Academy Award-winning makeup and visual effects artist Stan Winston has died. He was 62.
According to a representative from his Stan Winston Studio, Winston died at his home Sunday evening, surrounded by family members. For several years he had been receiving treatments for multiple myeloma, a form of cancer.
Among Winston and his company’s more memorable effects work were sequences in ‘Aliens” (1986), ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ (1991) and “Jurassic Park” (1993). He won Oscars for all three films and was considered a pioneer in visual-effects technology. In 2001 Winston also became one of two effects artists honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. (The other was stop-motion-animator Ray Harryhausen.)
Most recently, Winston and his crews did “organic” and digital effects work on the superhero movie “Iron Man.” Which of Winston’s work was your favorite?
