Protesting "The Love Guru" too much?
After only three weeks of release, “The Love Guru” is already coming off many first-run theater screens. And with less than $30 million in box-office receipts at this point, it stands to be the biggest bomb from “Shrek” and “Austin Powers” star Mike Myers in quite some time.
An alliance of Hindu and other Middle Eastern religious organizations is taking some of the credit for that. The groups called for a boycott of the movie, saying that it “lampoons Hinduism, mocks Ashram life and Hindu philosophy.”
However, most analysts put the blame on the universally bad reviews, the bad audience word of mouth and the painfully unfunny trailers and advertisements that pretty much scared people away from seeing the alleged comedy.
How about you? Do organized protests and boycotts steer you away from movies, or do they pique your interest in them instead?
