The Utah State Fair is just two months away (Sept. 4-14), and with the fair comes the Grandstand Entertainment.
In the past, the Grandstand stage has featured groups such as Destiny’s Child, Styx (with Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. on the keyboards) and even Britney Spears, who headlined right as her star exploded.
Of the 10 shows scheduled this year, only one isn’t free with admission to the fair ‘ “High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens’ concert on Friday, Sept. 5
Here is the schedule. Note that the schedule is subject to change anytime:
Friday, Sept. 5, 7:30 p.m.: Vanessa Hudgens
Saturday, Sept. 6, 7:30 p.m.: Natalie Grant, Gospel Female Vocalist of the Year
Sunday, Sept. 7, 5 p.m.: Country Gold Tour featuring Leroy Van Dyke, Tommy Cash, Jimmy Fortne, Jack Greene, Charlie Rich Jr. and Jeannie Seely
Monday, Sept. 8, 7:30 p.m.: Chris Cagle, country
Tuesday, Sept. 9, 6 p.m.: “VeggieTales” Rockin’ Tour, children variety
Wednesday, Sept. 10, 7:30 p.m.: Marshall Tucker Band, Atlanta Rhythm Section and the Georgia Satellites, southern rock
Friday, Sept. 12, 7:30 p.m.: Elvis Extravaganza Contest, do you look and sound like Elvis?
Saturday, Sept. 13, 5 p.m.: 27th Annual Colgate Country Showdown with headliners Lady Antebellum, 2008 Academy of Country Music’s Top New Vocal Group
Sunday, Sept. 14, 1 p.m.: Utah’s Strongest Man Amateur Nationals, no live music, but a lot of grunts and postures
Tickets for Hudgens’ concert, which are $18, go on sale Friday at 11 a.m. through all SmithsTix outlets or by calling 467-8499, 800-888-8499 or logging on to www.smithstix.com. There’s limit of six tickets per customer.
The other shows are free with gate admission; tickets can be picked up at the Grandstand Ticket booth beginning at noon the day of the show.
