Well, I think it’s the beginning of the end for 15-year-old Disney cashbox Miley Cyrus. She was called on the carpet and apologized for yet another misstep in the public eye.
A couple of months ago, she apologized for semi-provocative photos that ran in Vanity Fair.
The public, for the most part, forgave her but didn’t forget. And it seemed the public’s eye got more critical.
Well, a few days ago, Cyrus and her friend Mandy Jiroux, 22, took advantage of their YouTube account and mocked upcoming Disney princess and “Camp Rock” star Demi Lovato, 15, and her friend Selena Gomez, 16.
Some of the mocking, which was interspersed between original footage of the Lovator/Gomez posting, became borderline mean-spirited ridicule about teeth, makeup and other personal jabs. And while Cyrus and Jiroux laughed it up, it came off as mean.
In Popstar! magazine, Cyrus issued a clarification. ” We were kind of supporting their channel, but also being silly because they were being funny, and that’s our thing — to be funny …
“They have, like, a YouTube account, and so at the end of our video we did put ‘Go to their YouTube,’ ” she continued. “Elvis says, ‘Imitation is the greatest form of flattery,’ so we were imitating them being funny.”
Whether it’s true or not, the video wasn’t in at least bit flattering to Lovato and Gomez. And, truthfully, it made Cyrus look petulant and even a bit worried about Lovato becoming the next big Disney thing.
Is Cyrus worried about becoming passe at the age of 15? Is this video any indication of her insecurities? And will her career begin the ever-familiar downward slide that most child stars experience? And is, in fact, her career already on the skids?
Those of you who have seen both videos, tell me what you think.
