The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, known as the Grammy Awards organization, issued a statement Thursday regarding the death of music producer Michael Berniker:
“Mike Berniker was a prolific record producer and true music man whose diverse projects crossed multiple genres from his landmark production of Barbara Streisand’s debut to numerous Broadway musicals and mainstream jazz recordings. This two-time Grammy Award recipient infused legendary recordings with creative and dramatic electricity and style; his contributions to our music culture are everlasting. The music industry has lost an intuitive collaborator, and we mourn his loss along with all of those who had the pleasure and joy of knowing him,” NARAS president Michael Portnow said Thursday.
Berniker — who also produced albums by Johnny Mathis, Paquito D’Rivera and Perry Como, to name a few — died of kidney disease at his home in Barrington, Mass., last Friday. He was 73.
