Attack of the mid-week openings!

Wednesday film openings are nothing new. Some big summer releases open mid-week to get a jump on the weekend. And holiday films sometimes follow that strategy.

However, August is bringing us three weeks’ worth of new movie Wednesdays. Both the stoner comedy “Pineapple Express” (rated R) and “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2″ (rated PG-13) opened today.

And the following Wednesdays see the release of the comedies “Tropic Thunder” (rated R) and “The Rocker” (rated PG-13). They hit theaters Aug. 13 and 20, respectively.

Supposedly these releases are being targeted at teens, many of whom are still enjoying their summer breaks. But half of these are rated R. Hmmm …

Anyway, what are your feelings about mid-week openings? Does this release strategy affect your decision to see a particular film at all?
