Seen and reviewed (Aug. 6 and 8)

New films this week:

– “Brick Lane” (rated PG-13), a drama about East Indian immigrants in London.
– “Gonzo: The Life and Work of Hunter S. Thompson” (rated R), a documentary feature about the late “gonzo journalist” Thompson.
– “Pineapple Express” (rated R), a stoner-culture comedy from the “Knocked Up” and “Superbad” filmmakers. (Released Wednesday.)
– “The Singing Revolution” (not rated), a documentary about Estonian and Eastern European politics.
– “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2″ (rated PG-13), a sequel to the “girl-power” hit from 2004. (Released Wednesday.)

The filmmaking in “Gonzo” is not as crazed as its subject matter, but it’s still interesting. And the performances are good in the otherwise familiar “Brick Lane.” As for “Singing Revolution,” it’s much too talky for its own good.

The Wednesday openings are a mixed bag as well. The R-rated “Express” has some laughs but is much too long. And only two of the subplots in the new “Sisterhood” (those dealing with Amber Tablyn and America Ferrera’s characters) really hold our interest.

Which, if any, of these movies figure into your weekend plans?
