The Police reunion wraps up
Last night the Regeneration Tour, with ’80s hit-makers the Human League, Belinda Carlisle, ABC and Naked Eyes played the the Depot. Meanwhile, another ’80s band, the Police, was wrapping up its reunion tour in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
According to Billboard Magazine, the total ticket gross for the Police reunion tour was nearly $360 million.
And with that, the Police — bassist/vocalist Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers — made history again. The reunion shows now rank No. 3 among top-grossing concerts.
First place goes to the Rolling Stones’ 2005-07 “Bigger Bang Tour,” which brought in $558 million. Second place was U2′s “Vertigo Tour,” which took place the same year and pulled in $389 million.
You may remember that Utah hosted the Police at the USANA Amphitheatre on July 19. So those audience members’ hard-earned cash did add to a fraction of the tour’s final tally and helped the band make it into the music-biz record books.
