Well, Clay Aiken came out of the closet in an interview with People Magazine this week.

Does this really matter?

Aiken sure isn’t the only gay musician who has widespread success and has made life more enjoyable with his music. And he certainly won’t be the last.

Does it matter that Desmond Child, who co-penned hits for Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and Ricky Martin, is gay?

What about Johnny Mathis, who in 1982 revealed he was gay?

How about Melissa Etheridge or Janis Ian or Rob Halford from Judas Priest and k.d. lang?

Then there are actors and actresses Ian McKellen, Ellen DeGeneres, Lily Tomlin . . .

The list goes on but it doesn’t nullify the fact that these artists’ crafts and talents enrich the lives of fans from all backgrounds.

So, again, why does it matter that Clay Aiken is gay?
