Benefit for Sierra Leone

This just in.

Students at West High School are holding a funraiser this week to help the West African nation of Sierra Leone, rated by the United Nations human development index as the poorest countries on Earth.

The students worked with Ann Norman, a Utahn who worked for the United Nations in Sierra Leone in 2005 and is currently on the board of directors of the non-profit Shine On Sierra Leone organization. They’re bringing her husband, African recording artist Daddy Saj to Salt Lake City for a performance on Friday, Dec. 19.

The concert will begin at 6 p.m. in the West High auditorium. Tickets are available for a minimum donation of $5 at the door.

In addition, West High is holding a “Rock Band” video game competition today (Wednesday, Dec. 17), from 2-4 p.m. in room C419 to raise money to build a bakery in Sierra Leone.
