Sunday is Grammy night
Sunday marks the 51st Annual Grammy Awards.
I, for one, like them. I like the performances and I like to see which nominee gets to take home the awards.
This year the Record of the Year nominees are Adele’s “Chasing Pavements,” Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida,” Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love,” M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes” and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss’ “Please Read the Letter.”
I’m rooting for Coldplay, and I know that Plant & Krauss are on a lot of people’s radar. But Lewis and Adele have been everywhere in the past few months. My guess is that Lewis will take home the award.
Album of the Year nominees are Coldplay for “Viva la Vida,” Li’l Wayne for “That Carter III,” Ne-Yo for “Year of the Gentlemen,” the aforementioned Plant & Krauss for “Raising Sand” and Radiohead for “In Rainbows.”
I’m hoping Plant & Krass get this one. Sorry Coldplay…. I love you guys, but the Plant & Krauss album is better.
The Song of the Year, which will be awarded to the songwriters and not necessarily the artists, has five nominations:
“American Boy,” sung by Estelle Swaray & Kanye West and written by William Adams, Keith Harris, Josh Lopez, Caleb Speir, John Stephens, Swaray and West; “Chasing Pavements,” sung by Adele and written by Adele and Eg White; “I’m Yours,” sung and written by Jason Mraz; “Love Song,” sung and written by Sara Bareilles; and “Viva La Vida,” sung by Coldplay and written by Guy Berryman, Jonny buckland, Will Champion and Chris Martin – also known as Coldplay — are the nomines.
I’m hoping “I’m Yours” takes the trophy.
As for another one of my favorite categories, Best Metal Performance, the nominees are Dragonforce’s “Heroes of Our Time,” Judas Preist’s “Nostradamus,” Metallica’s “My Apocalypse,” Ministry’s “Under My Thumb” and Slipknot’s “Psychosocial.”
In all honesty, JP’s “Nostradamus” was an ambitious project — a two-CD concept album about the legendary Nostradamus. And with tight production and well-crafted and dynamic songs, this one should be the actual winner. But I have a feeling Metallica will get the award.
So, there you have my favorites.
It will be interesting to see what happens this Sunday.
I know I’ll be watching. Not only because it’s my job, but because I really enjoy the Grammys.
