New films in theaters this week:

– “Duplicity” (rated PG-13), a corporate espionage tale starring Julia Roberts and Clive Owen.
– “The Great Buck Howard” (rated PG), a show-business comedy-drama starring Colin Hanks.
– “I Love You, Man” (rated R), a comedy pairing Paul Rudd and Jason Segel as would-be friends.
– “Knowing” (rated PG-13), a suspense-thriller starring Nicolas Cage.

A nasty cold kept me from seeing “Knowing,” though the word-of-mouth has not been good for Cage’s latest.

And despite the younger Hanks (Tom Hanks’ son) and John Malkovich, “Buck Howard” is less than great and is too familiar. (For a much-better version of a similar story, watch “My Favorite Year.”)

Roberts and Owen appear to be having fun in “Duplicity.” Their good-natured sparring makes it worthwhile, though the film is a little too talky and too twisty for its own good. (The film’s final revelation is a bit much as well.)

Real-life pals Rudd and Segel also appear to be having fun in “I Love You, Man.” The film is slightly less crude than most of its fellow R-rated comedy — in fact, if some profanity were trimmed from the movie it might have gotten a more palatable PG-13.

Which, if any of these movies, fits into your weekend viewing plans?
