Tyson Apostol blindsided – Utahn eliminated from 'Survivor: Tocantins'

TYSON APOSTOL WILL BE REMEMBERED in “Survivor” history — but that’s not a good thing.

The Utahn ended up being one of the most arrogant contestants in the show’s 18 seasons. And that whole pride-goeth-before-a-fall thing did him in as he was ousted from the show in this week’s episode.

What ended up making him look so foolish was his overwhelming belief that he had the game in hand. And, at the end of the episode, his statements came back to haunt him.

To back up a bit, Tyson had an ongoing personality conflict with fellow contestant Sierra. And he wasn’t exactly subtle about his contempt for her.

In an apparent attempt at humor, Tyson told viewers, “I’ve never liked Sierra. To me, she’s of no worth. I mean, her parents probably love her. I can’t imagine her boyfriend’s that cool.”

And he was nothing short of cruel in a face-to-face encounter with her. Sierra tried to save herself by claiming she wasn’t the “mastermind” of an alliance that came up against — and lost to — Tyson’s alliance.

“I don’t think you were the mastermind. I don’t think you’re smart enough for it,” he said, adding, “‘You’re going to be the next to go. You’re not going to be able to change that.”

To the camera, Tyson said, “Tonight’s tribal council is going to be awesome. I’m hoping Sierra is going to cry a lot.”

But … when Tyson failed to win the immunity challenge — after winning it in two consecutive episodes — contestants with whom he was allied started to think that maybe now was the time to get rid of him. Because he was such a physical challenge.

Tyson, however, had no clue. He looked smug and arrogant as the tribal council began.

“I’m feeling pretty comfortable. The people I’ve aligned myself with are the people I trust,” he said in response to a question from host Jeff Probst.

Tyson was so sure of himself he thought nothing of getting into a rather nasty exchange with Sierra during the tribal council. Whether his condescension hurt him in the vote is open for debate, but it probably didn’t help.

As she voted to oust him, Sierra called him “a jerk.” And it would be hard to argue with her.

As Probst revealed the votes, Tyson had a big smile when the first vote against him was revealed. His smile faded a bit when he got a second vote. By vote No. 3, the smile was gone and he was starting to freak out.

Two more votes and he was done.

He took it pretty calmly, but he didn’t exactly make an effort to leave with a lot of class.

“I guess everybody deserves to be there. You beat me — that’s a huge accomplishment,” he said in the post-elimination interview. “That bothers me that Sierra would be here longer than me. It’s a little weird being outfoxed by an idiot, but I’m not crying over it.”

Um, he’s calling her an idiot?

And Tyson Apostol becomes the second member of the jury that will decide which of the seven remaining contestants will win the million dollars.
