American Idols Live

For those of you who really want to know, Sandy’s own Megan Joy did a bird call at the end of one her songs Tuesday night.

The singer, who placed No. 9 on season 8 of “American Idol,” did a tongue-in-cheek “caw caw” when she and the band wrapped up her version of Amy Winehouse’s “Tears Dry on Their Own.”

Speaking of “American Idols Live” stop in Salt Lake City Tuesday, some of the singers were interviewed earlier in the day with local news outlets.

Texan Michael Sarver, who placed 10th in season 8, said one challenge of being a part of “American Idol” was breaking stereotypes.

“Coming in as an R & B singer and then immediately people expecting me to be county, because I’m from Texas, work on an oil rig and I’ve got an accent — it’s kind of funny.

“It was a very big challenge because (the viewers) set a standard for you and come ‘country week’ they expect you to be incredible when, in my personal life, I never even thought about singing country.”

Second-place winner Adam Lambert, an audience favorite on Tuesday, said his main reason for talking about his sexual preference after “American Idol” was to “get off the topic and more on the topic of performing and entertainment.”

“There was so much speculation, and people were having arguments about it and I just wanted to set the record straight, and do it in a way that I felt was appropriate for where I’m at as an artist and explain myself in detail.

“There are probably people out there who were inspired, and I’m sure there were people out there who might not wanted to know that.

“I would have kept it to myself if it weren’t such a hot topic of interest. I just wanted to set the record straight — or gay.”
