Seen and reviewed (July 24)
New films in theaters this week:
– “Every Little Step” (rated PG-13), a documentary about the 2006 revival of “A Chorus Line.”
– “G-Force” (rated PG), a live-action comedy-adventure starring the voices of Nicolas Cage and Sam Rockwell. (Shown in both the 2-D and 3-D formats.)
– “Orphan” (rated R), a horror-thriller starring Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard as adoptive parents.
– “The Ugly Truth” (rated R), a romantic/sex comedy starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler.

Neither “G-Force” nor “Orphan” were pre-screened in time for opening-day reviews — at least in most markets. (Also, at the time this blog was posted, I will be in San Diego for the 2009 Comic-Con.)
“Ugly Truth” is surprisingly crude (it definitely earns its R rating), and television star Heigl is clearly trying too hard to be funny.
The week’s best film is “Every Little Step.” Broadway fans and aficionados of the long-running musical “Chorus Line” should enjoy this documentary, which looks at the lengthy auditions process, as well as the production’s beginnings.
Which, if any, of these movies fit into your weekend viewing plans?
