Utah “Browncoats” and Brewvies Cinema Pub, 677 S. 200 West, are hosting a screening of the 2005 science-fiction thriller “Serenity” on Oct. 29.

Similar fan groups for the fondly remembered, science-fiction television program “Firefly,” which served as the inspiration for “Serenity,” will hold similar screenings around the country on that day.

The event is a fundraiser for Equality Now, an organization dedicated to “the protection and preservation of human rights for women across the globe.” It is a cause near and dear to the heart of “Firefly” co-creator Joss Whedon.

This “Can’t Stop the Serenity” event, which starts at 7 p.m., will include other entertainment, games, prizes and a charity auction.

Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. Brewvies Cinema Pub is open to patrons 21 and older.

More information on the event is available at www.cstsutah.org.
