Grammy nominations

Did anyone catch the Grammy Nomination announcements last night?

This was the second year the noms were revealed during prime-time on CBS.

I wasn’t surprised who was on the list.

Beyonce is the big woman on campus with her 10 nominations, which includes the Top 3 most prestigious categories — Album of the Year for her CD “I Am … Sasha Fierce,” Song of the Year for the hit “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and Record of the Year for “Halo.”

I knew that Taylor Swift would be near the top as well, since she has been seen everywhere this past year. She is also up for Song and Record of the Year for “You Belong to Me.”

I was disappointed to see that Lady Gaga garnered five nominations including Record and Song of the Year for her dance hit “Poker Face.”

I saw Lady Gaga live when she opened for the New Kids on the Block last year, and she was off key and the choreography was dismal.

The Best New Artist category included country group Zac Brown Band, the English rock duo The Ting Tings, rock bands MGMT and Silversun Pickups and R&B singer Keri Hilson.

Speaking of the Ting Tings, it’s funny that the Black Eyed Peas were nominated for Record of the Year and more for “I Gotta Feeling,” when the chorus cadence and pitch sound just like the Ting Tings’ “That’s Not My Name.”

Anyway, we’ll all have to wait until Jan. 31 to see who will take the trophies home.

What do you think of the nominations?
