Resolutions and thoughts

Hey, it’s been awhile since I last posted.

Things have been quite hectic these past few days. My grand-uncle passed away and his funeral was last week.

And to tell you the truth, I’ve just been lazy about posting.

So, I’ve decided that my New Year’s resolution will be to post more.

I was toying with the idea of not making a resolution. If I had followed that route, I guarantee that would be one resolution that I could keep all year.

Anyway, to cope with my sadness about my grand uncle, I watched a bit of Metallica’s concert DVD from the band’s 1993 box set “Binge and Purge.”

I got the box set for Christmas the year it was released. Since DVDs weren’t really widespread at the time, the box set featured three video tapes and three CDs.

The band’s lineup then was guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Jason Newsted. And the band, at that time, was THE most popular band in metal.

And while the most recent songs on the DVD come from the band’s most successful CD “Metallica,” a k a. “The Black Album,” which featured a more straight-forward rock sound, it has always been the older songs the band plays that intrigue me.

“Whiplash,” “Four Horsemen,” “Am I Evil” and my favorite Metallica song, “Creeping Death,” are, to me the highlights because the band still played them with fury, energy and conviction.

I purchased the DVD version of the set in 1999 and have watched it many times since.

Watching it last week helped me overcome my blues and reignite my love for Metallica, which now, of course, features bassist Robert Trujillo.

Metal Rules!!
