According to trade publication Daily Variety, a remake of the 1984 musical “Footloose” has hit some serious production snags.
At one time, its distributor, Paramount Pictures, was planning to have the film finished in time for a June 18 release. Now it has been taken off the studio’s 2010 release calendar entirely.
The Variety report states that the remake hit “a major roadblock” when “High School Musical” co-creator Kenny Ortega dropped out as director. Ortega, who also directed the concert documentary “Michael Jackson: This is It,” reportedly left due to “creative differences” with Paramount officials.

And Ortega was allegedly keen on shooting the remake in Utah, the site for the “High School Musical” movies, as well as the original version of “Footloose.”
No replacement for Ortega has been named. Chace Crawford (TV’s “Gossip Girl”) and Utahn Julianne Hough were set to play the roles originated by Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer.
