I made Bill Cosby laugh
Last week, I had the opportunity to interview comedic icon Bill Cosby.
Needless to say, I was a little nervous. I mean, I was going to interview Bill Cosby, the man who not only does award-winning stand-up comedy, but also award-winning TV, movies, books and recordings.
His recent award was the Mark Twain Prize for comedy.
Anyway, when the time came, I rang him up.
We talked about Salt Lake City being the Jell-O capital of the United States, among other things. But before that, he started off the interview by giving me a comprehensive history lesson on his friend, the late Tuskegee Airman Lee Archer, who died a couple of weeks ago at the age of 90.
Archer had flown 169 missions and raked in four confirmed aerial victories.
Archer was also an executive for General Foods, Cosby said.
“And General Foods is Jell-O,” he said with laugh. “And that’s who I am.”
To make a long story, short, Cosby said Archer used to watch the Coz tape the Jell-O commercials.
“Now, match THAT young writer,” Cosby said with a smirk in his voice.
So, after a split second, I said, “Uh — I’m talking to Bill Cosby!”
And to my delight, Cosby giggled up a storm.
Now, I wasn’t making light of Archer’s deeds, but to me, Bill Cosby is a genius in stand-up comedy.
