U2 coming to SLC

It’s official.

United Concerts announced this morning that the U2 360 tour will make a stop at Rice-Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah on Thursday, June 3.

Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. at all SmithsTix locations. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 801-467-8499 or 800-888-8499 or by logging on to www.smithstix.com

The surprising thing is that 84 percent of the tickets for U2 360 tour are priced at or less than $95, according to the United Concert press release.

General admission floor tickets are $55 and at least 10,000 tickets per venue (are) priced at $30 (plus applicable fees).

Oh, and just a little factoid: Rice-Eccles Stadium holds more than 45,000 seats for sports events. So, you know there will be more than that considering all the tickets that will be sold for the floor.

The show will include a cylindrical, interlocking-LED-panel video system and a stage with rotating bridges.

The last time U2 played Rice-Eccles Stadium was in 1997 for the “Popmart” tour. And the last time U2 played in Salt Lake City was in 2005 when the band – vocalist Bono, guitarist Dave “the Edge” Evans, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. – played the Delta Center which, of course, is now called the EnergySolutions Arena.
