My Youngest Turns 14

My daughter, Kaitlyn, will turn 14 on Monday, March 29, but we’re holding a family party tomorrow.

Later this year, she’ll be a freshman in high school.

Time does race when you’re having fun.

As I was pondering her birthday, I came up with a list of birthday songs that I would like to dedicate to her.

Note, however, that I did not put the traditional “Happy Birthday” in the mix. I wanted to do something different.

Here’s what I’ve compiled of the top of my head:

Beatles, “Birthday”
Don McLean, “Birthday Song”
Click Five, “Happy Birthday”
NOFX, “New Happy Birthday Song?”
Dethklok, “Birthday Deathday” (my favorite)
Stevie Wonder, “Happy Birthday”
“Weird Al” Yankovic, “Happy Birthday”
Infected Mushroom, “Birthday”
Underground Sunshine, “Birthday”
Altered Images, “Happy Birthday”
Grand Master Flash & the Furious Five, “The Birthday Party”
The Vandals, “Happy Birthday to Me”
Twista, “Birthday”

And here’s one honorable mention:

The Smiths, “Unhappy Birthday” (even though I would never wish an unhappy birthday to my daughter)

Anyway, Happy Birthday, sweetheart. I hope you have a good day.
