I love playing drums

I was out of the office May 14, 17 and 18 because I had a drumming gig.

I played drums and percussion for my youngest daughter’s school orchestra at Carden Memorial in Sugarhouse.

I’ve been doing this gig twice a year for nearly 6 years – a holiday concert and a spring concert.

The first concert I ever played with the school included Klaus Badelt’s “Pirates of the Caribbean,” as well as “The Circle of Life.”

Throughout the years we’ve played Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera,” the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “Wizards in Winter,” the “Indiana Jones” theme by John William, and Henry Mancini’s “The Pink Panther,” to name a few.

This year, my daughter graduates from Carden, and I felt a little twinge of sadness, knowing the shows would be the last we play while she is a student.

Fittingly, we played an encore of “Pirates of the Caribbean” this year.

It’s like we’ve come full circle.

The good news is, the orchestra director, Laura Brown, asked if we could be guest musicians next year.

Of course, we accepted.

It’s been a great gig and I’m looking forward to what we’ll play next.
