Still no word on 'Idol' judges

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Well, so much for the big announcement about who will be judging “American Idol” next season.

Didn’t happen, because the new judges — whoever they are — haven’t signed deals yet.
“I truly wish that we were going to walk out a panel of judges for next year …. I’m really sorry that that’s not going to happen,” Fox Entertainment chairman Peter Rice told a gathering of the Television Critics Association. “If we had signed deals we would have done that.”

Neither Rice nor Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly would discuss any of the rumored changes. Not Jennifer Lopez. Not Steven Tyler. Not P. Diddy. Not anybody else.

Rice said he’s been reading all the speculation in the media.

“Much of the information has been accurate, and some of the information that has been written has been wildly inaccurate,” he said.

There was also no word about the fate of the two judges who didn’t quit the panel after last season, Randy Jackson or Kara DioGuardi.

“I’m not going to get into the speculation about it because it’s not fair to everyone who’s being speculated about,” Rice said.

There’s going to be a new panel soon. Real soon, apparently.

Just not in time to announce it to the TCA.
