Getting ready for summer concerts

If you’re a person who can’t wait for summer, here’s another reason to look forward to warmer months ahead: Red Butte Gardens has announced a sneak peak at their 2012 Summer Concert series.

Among the acts named so far: The Shins, Bon Iver, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Diana Krall and Huey Lewis and The News.

Tickets for Red Butte members will go on sale in April. Those hoping to go to Krall may want to consider a membership as her show will very likely once again sell out.

Bon Iver, fresh off their double Grammy win including Best New Artist, should be a nice fit for Red Butte crowd.

The show that stands out for me so far in this group is Potter. Those who were worried that the only chance of seeing her this summer would be an opening 30-minute set on the Kenney Chesney/Tim McGraw stadium tour (currently not scheduled for Utah) should be excited to hear that Potter and the Nocturnals will be headlining their first Red Butte show in-between stadium tour dates.

About 20 additional shows are expected to be announced this spring to round out the Red Butte season.

Other concert notes:

Speaking of summer tours, tickets for The Avett Bros at The Gallivan Center are now on sale.

Toby Keith will raise his red solo cup to the USANA Amphitheatre on June 14. Tickets go on sale Friday.

Tickets for the Iron Maiden show (mentioned in a previous posting) at the USANA Amphitheatre Aug. 1 go on sale Saturday.

Party rockers LMFAO will bring their crew to the Maverik Center on May 30.

And it’s not really a summer tour, but Mike Ness and Social Distortion have added a second show at The Depot due to popular demand. As a bonus, the show on May 12 will be All Ages!
