Grohl, Eagles getting ready for Sundance

PARK CITY — The 2013 Sundance Film Festival is almost here, much to excitement of music fans as well as movie enthusiasts.

Dave Grohl’s documentary Sound City will premier at Sundance. The film is about the legendary Sound City recording studio in California where some of the greatest albums in rock-n-roll were recorded, including Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors, Nirvana’s Nevermind, and many of Tom Petty’s albums. The studio closed in 2011.

To celebrate the movie premier, Grohl has announced that Dave Grohl’s Sound City Players will play at Park City Live on Jan. 18. Who will be playing in the band hasn’t been announced yet. But the Sound City soundtrack sparked the recent Nirvana reunion-Paul McCartney collaboration, “Cut Me Some Slack.” Other artists who appear on the soundtrack include Stevie Nicks, Josh Homme, Trent Reznor, Rick Springfield and Rick Nielsen.

Grohl isn’t the only person premiering a music documentary at Sundance. History of the Eagles Part 1 will premier on Jan. 20. The film looks at the band’s beginnings through their breakup in 1980. Reportedly all current and former members were interviewed for the movie, as well as rare and never seen before pictures and concert video.
