Remember when Taylor Swift acted as a backup singer in Brad Paisley’s video for “Online?”
Yeah, that seems forever ago now.
Fast forward just six short years, three award-winning albums, a few hundred million record sales and little MTV incident with Kanye West later and the then 17-year-old up-and-comer has not only moved out in front of Paisley, but the rest of the music world as well.
It’s hard to argue against it, but T-Swizzle, now 23, is one of the biggest music stars in the world. Her show Saturday night at Energy Solutions Arena has been sold out for a loooonnng time, just like every other date on her current tour.
Tay Tay recently added 8 more awards to her trophy case, winning big at the Billboard Music Awards for her latest album, RED. Her total record sales and downloads are in the hundreds of millions and have set all sorts of records (too many to list). She is the youngest person ever to ever write and record a number one song on the country charts and the youngest to ever win the Grammy for Album of the Year. Her sophomore album, Fearless, was one of the biggest in country music history.
But the girl who once was seen only in sun dresses, cowboy boots and long curly hair, has today not only made that jump from country star to pop icon status, but is now revered in fashion circles and has dabbled into acting.
Her latest album, RED, released in October, is still in the top 40 for iTunes album sales, fueled by the singles, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “22.”
She has 43 million Facebook fans and 28 million Twitter followers.
And the numbers list goes on and on.
The tabloids have dubbed her a “serial dater.” She’s been linked to the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal, Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Taylor Lautner, a Kennedy and that one guy from One Direction. As if every girl wouldn’t like to have that “problem.” Swift has maintained her role model image – no TMZ videos of her passed out in the back of a car, flashing private parts or getting in fights with random people here. The critics have also pointed out that she gets too “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!” when winning awards. Again, winning too many awards is a problem all artists would like to have. Oh, and she’s also besties with Selena Gomez and likes to talk to her at awards shows.
There. Now that the “dirt” has been laid out, there really isn’t anything to talk about except the music. Her RED Tour will take her all over the world this year and is already receiving critical acclaim. Many are saying the “Oh My Gosh!” days are over, and Taylor exudes nothing but confidence, taking full command of the stage on this tour. If her concert is anything like her award show appearances, it’s safe to say it will be extremely visual as well as musical. The set list is expected to focus heavily on the new album. But fans will still hear many of her big hits, like “You Belong With Me” and “Love Song.”
Ed Sheeran will open the show.
